We are currently in the midst of a hot , muggy July here in NJ . The kind of heat that hits you like a frying pan when you step outside . Now don’t get me wrong. I do enjoy summer and all of its wonderful hallmarks like the beach, reading a novel by the pool, backyard barbecues, and the longer days. But sometimes it can just be too much for me and I need a little escape. So yesterday I had myself a very little Christmas in July.
The first thing I did upon waking was Take a nice long shower with some Christmas scented body wash. I always buy it when it’s on sale at Bath and body and then store it for a day when I need a little Christmas. It’s such an indulgent treat . Then I put on my favorite Christmas pajamas and made some hot chocolate topped with whipped cream in my absolute favorite Be Merry mug ! I settled onto the sofa with one of my many Christmas blankets after cranking the AC. Luckily there were plenty of Christmas movies on Hallmark being that it’s Christmas in July on their network. I do have to say I love my Hallmark Christmas movies and they were a great escape into The land of Christmas where everything works out in the end, and as I sat on the sofa snuggled up with the fake fireplace burning, I realized I need this escape ! For me it’s an important part of maintaining my sanity , which can look different from person to person but for me – it’s Christmas and all the comfort it brings me .
Long story short do what makes you happy because life is a sonic journey that passes by with ever increasing speed . Do what brings you joy . You have to indulge in some comforting self care and for me , that means going to my happy place – Christmas .
